I suggest you forget the pads and a cup. Menstrual cups fit into the vagina and the blood collects before leaving the body. There are one-way through a brand called instead, to find in local grocery stores or you can create a reusable (or Diva Cup or the owner) buy in most drugstores. It is not only good for heavy bleeding, but also the environment and save a lot of money per year. Another advantage is that it is so comfortable you forget you're still in the period.
